The Start of Something New
Ever since I started copperminted, I have wanted to make blogging or some other form of more verbal, more straightforward communication a part of my brand. I know that not everyone can relate to ink splatters or a 10-inch tall statue of me, so I feel the need to have another way of telling my story.
Sure, they [being every professional I have ever met] say I should stick to a niche and become the best. Perhaps I will aesthetically. That said, one for my biggest goals, my “WHY”, is to humanize art, to make it more accessible to ALL people. I grew up not knowing or understanding anything about art. until discovering my passion for it relatively recently. Looking back, I think it came down to my parents not knowing anything about art themselves, and the intellectual distance many artists seem to create with their confusing symbolism or niche interests. Now that I’ve arrived at this point in my life, I can’t help but think of all the other people like me who struggle and have extraordinary creativity, but lack exposure to a world that would embrace them with open arms because its barriers are too great to over come. Because of this, I am always asking myself, “what good am I doing if I am just serving people who “understand art” or just gravitate towards my style?”
They also say “be the change you want to see”. That is one phrase that I won’t ever challenge. If I’ve learned anything at all, it is that waiting for something to get done is a recipe for self-loathing and disappointment. That’s why I want to take my first step forward in making art more accessible through this blog. Who knows where this will go or what impact it will have? Your guess is as good as mine!
